Equine Assisted Therapy For Veterans

Equine Assisted Therapy For Veterans Receives $5 Million Dollar Funding

On June 8th, 2018, the U.S. House of Representatives approved and passed H.R. 5895, for Fiscal Year 2019, The Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act, which adds increase funding for equine-assisted activities and therapies. This amendment directs the transfer of $5 million dollars from the VA’s Health Administration’s Medical Community Care Account to the Medical Services Account for the direct use for the VA’s Adaptive Sports Grant Program, Equine Assisted Therapy.

The funding increase will enable an expansion of services that use equine-assisted therapy in conjunction with mental health care treatment and services to veterans. We are extremely hopeful and excited that equine assisted therapy (EAT-PTS) will become a proven resource that yields a safe, comforting and promising treatment pathway for veterans and service members suffering with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries.
